What a Blessed Day!!

Update. What a Blessed Day The Lord Hath Made.  We headed out early this morning and took J.T. To Sport Clips for a haircut. The Lady  there took great care in Giving him an Awesome Cut.  She washed his hair and at the end she told me that she Prayed for him the whole time she cut his hair.  She gave me a big Hug and " said God Bless You All".     We headed back to The Shepherd Center where he had some Visitors patiently waiting to see him. Ballou Barrett, Susan McKinney Barrett, and Hattie Ruth had been waiting as well as Jonathan Lawson,  Elizabeth M. Lawson, Keaton Lawson , Laken Lawson, and Colton McClain. Keaton and Colton are some of Jacobs best Friends.  J.T. Loves all kids.  He enjoyed talking with Ballou who just got right down in the floor and chatted him up.  Colton said let me get a picture with my boy. The whole gang had prayer with us.  We had planned to go see a movie so we loaded back up in our van and headed to see Bourne- Jason Bourne as Phil Robertson famously said.  Me, Christie, Peyton and Jacob who proudly got to sit next to J.T. .  I caught them just leaning on each other during the movie.  We met His Nana and at the theater.  The Movie was Awesome.  We then headed to The Yard House for an Lunch/ Dinner Combo.  Then to Killwins for Ice  Cream.  Back to Shepherd where Jonathan and Elizabeth and Crew came back by and picked up Jacob so that he could hangout and go swimming with Keaton and Colton.   The guy that J.T. had by chance met at Dick's and Passion City came by with a friend Joseph.  The mans name  is Nick Brandt.  They wanted to talk with us and especially get to know him and here his story. He was so uplifting and the fellowship we had was amazing.  He just seemed to have this presence and peace about him that made Us feel Blessed.   While we were talking God again made his Power known when J.T. Noticed that his left Index finger could move a lot this was a new and important improvement.  Praise God!!!  Nick ended the night by having a special prayer with us . Jonathan and Elizabeth brought Jake back and took Christie on Dew Crew Run for Nana. The Lawson Family was such a Blessing to us.    We want to thank God for an amazing day with family and friends and especially for the Blessing of Small Victories!!!! It has been an Amazing Week to say the least

Update Everyone Could see how Awesome a day our family had yesterday!!! We thank God for Blessing us with such Great times together as a family.  Now I would be fibbing if I didn't tell you we had our usual family fight when things got hectic trying to navigate Turner Field.  Hey that's just how we Roll!!! Anyone who knows us can understand that.  We are a passionate and opinionated family!!! I Wouldn't change a thing. 

Anyway a late night return only led to J. T.  Having an early morning start.  It really was a little bit of a rough night for him but he did well today.  Christie and I learned some stretches to help him in rehab and for his overall health.  He went on a lunch outing and had a successful trip In Which he learned many practical things that will help him navigate daily.  He returned and participated in a Video with his Teammates here at The Shepherd Center in which they did the Running man Challenge.  Watch out for that!!!! He was trying to get back to the room to visit with Jordan and Jeff Idell who stopped in on there way to the Dominican Republic.  Jordan unselfishly gave J.T. An awesome gift.  These two boys have competed against each other since they were 6 years old.  They have never been great friends but always respected each other as athletes and people.  For Jordan to show such compassion shows great character and an awesome respect for J.T. and for the game they both love to play.  It was very touching and humbling.  We went and got measured for his manual chair that he will be using.    We returned to find Sanders Henderson a friend of mine and a member of The Emory & Henry College Football Coaching Staff.  He brought J.T.  an E&H Helmet with a www.thefightfor5.com  sticker that they will wear on their helmets this Season.  He also had a Wasps Jersey and a Picture from former E&H President Charles Sydnor.  While visiting with Sanders and his wife Jill we had a delivery of a package from Grand Valley State University Football from none other than former E&H Player and Coach Jack Ginn .   What a coincidence.  They sent a team signed jersey and an awesome note from Jack telling J.T.  That he had recruited me to E&H J. T. Got a kick out of that.   Jack also had some very encouraging words.  We got a Van to transport him around in.  He has been wanting to go to the Barbershop,  Movies,  out to eat and especially continue going to Church.  Last Sunday we had to do 6 two man lifts just that day.  Our Van was delivered to the Shepherd Center today .  It has a ramp and tie downs for his Power Chair or his Manual one.  We went out to eat a Maggianos.  He actually has been Craving Cracker Barrel , but that was not an option on Friday night I. The ATL.     He ended the night with Peyton staying for a sleepover with him.  It has been an Amazing Week to say the least.  We feel so Blessed at how far he has came and Our family does feel closer.  Our God is more than Sufficient.  We have plans to attend a movie and for sure attend Church this weekend.  God Bless You All.  wwwthefightfor5.com

WCYB Channel 5 News air Thurs and Friday!!

Update.  WCYB Channel 5 News Olivia Bailey and her Camera man drove down to film J.T.  In Therapy and Interview him.  Although he was being video it was him actually doing real therapy.  He said that during his Weight lifting session he could tell that his strength had increased.  Praise the Lord!!!   He had lunch and went thru his regular routine and then did his interview .   He did an awesome job talking .  He was just himself.  Olivia an E&H graduate told J.T.  It was her favorite story she had ever done.  She hugged J.T.  At least three times.  He felt and looked comfortable.  I was very proud of him.  At the end she asked to interview me about our family and things.  I assured her that I was very good at talking,  but I wanted this to be about J.T.  And that she had plenty of material for an awesome story.    The interview will air tomorrow and Friday. He got a quick visit in with long time family friends Nat and Jane Copenhaver.  He finished up the afternoon with Assistive  Technology Therapy and OT with his Favorite Patty.  He rolled into the room only to be Surprised by His Uncle Tommy, His Cousin Jaret, and His Great Friends Ethan, Austin, and Doug Crowder.  We hung out and then went to the Cafeteria and Chowed Down on Tammy Brewers Spaghetti Casserole and Garlic Knots she brought.  He headed back to the top to roam the halls and cut up with Ethan, Jaret and Austin.  He had some great conversations with Tommy and Doug before they headed back and he went to bed.  Tomorrow is more Therapy and a Trip to the Braves game for the evening.  We are all looking forward to that.  Please continue your Prayers,  watch his interview and visit his site.  Thank you and God Bless!!!! www.thefightfor5.com

Momentum continues to grow for his Golf Tourney

Monday and Tuesday J.T.  Had some Good Therapy.  He got a Visit from his Crusaders Teamates Will Harless and Shaden Peevyhouse.  Unfortunately we didn't get Pictures.  Wills Parents and Shaden's Father came as well.  They got to watch him on the LE FES Bike.  He got back to the room and April Myers and Carl Smelser were waiting in the room to see him. 

     Tuesday morning he had an early morning and was scheduled to go on a golf outing.   His mother who wasn't prepared to go had came over early to get him ready ended up going with him.   Jacob and I got our haircut at Sport Clips.  The outing was 9-2. In the Atlanta heat. J.T. Had a good time .  He got to do some putting.  Hitting regular shots was a little harder.  He got exhausted as did his mother.  She also ran over her foot with his wheel chair.  He got back to the room and cooled off.  He got a visit from Anne Anne Wright Crutchfield The Head Women's Basketball Coach at  E&H and her Assistant Coach Jaclyn Dickens.  They had so many encouraging words.  Anne and her Husband John are great friends and constantly text me wanting to know how he is doing.   Just as they left his friend and new E&H Football player Mylan Brewer, and his parents Rick and Tammy came by on there way to Alabama.  They brought him some homemade baked spaghetti and Garlic Knots.   Enjoyed hanging out with them.   Momentum continues to grow for his Golf Tourney. 

God is so Amazing !!!!

Update. God is so Amazing !!!! I feel his Presence in My Life , My Family's Life and in J.T.'s Life.  The story of how today's events came about are proof that he is working thru this.  I Believe Ultimately that God will be Glorified some how thru this Tragedy we are Facing.  I know that we will get thru this Valley Because of his Grace and Mercy!!!

     The events unfold like this.  Thursday J.T. Goes on his first shopping trip to Dick Sporting Goods.  He rides the bus .  We drive up and meet him at the store.  He wants to look for some solid white shoes that will match everything so he can look Fresh and Clean.  Everyone has seen these shoes as I have posted pictures.  Anyway while trying on several pairs of shoes he meets this nice young man who's shopping for shoes too.  The man starts talking to J.T. And they both try on several pairs of shoes side by side .  Both of them end up buying the same exact ones.  We move forward to this morning .  River spends the night with J.T.  And of course they stay up till after midnight.  Not usual in the last few weeks.  This morning while we are getting ready at the apartment.  J.T. Passes out. They call a Code Rapid which I am sure scares River to death.  He rallies and gets cleaned up and ready for church.  We load up and head over to Passion City Church.  This place is huge mind you.  They will have Three Services Today and have about 3,000 people at each.  His OT Patty meets us in the parking lot.  Has us seats saved.  We walk in the door and have been there 2 minutes who do we run into. The guy from Dick's .  He immediately recognized J.T. And comes over he says I can not believe this.  He said he got in the car after meeting J.T.  and thought I should have invited them to Church.  Now you are here.  Turns out he just happens to be over The College Age Youth at Passion City.  He offers to take J.T. Out to Dinner sometime and wants him to talk to the Youth and tell them his story!!!   What are the odds of seeing this young man twice in a city of 6.4 million people at a church that size???Patty his OT who volunteers at the Church didn't even know him.  She said she wanted to go with J.T.  That she wanted to get to know him.  She has been at this Church for 4 Years.  How Amazing ??? God has a Plan!!!

   Meanwhile Jacob sees the Youth area for his age group and it is Full of About Twenty Huge Camping Tents. He says how do I get in there.  We get Seated in the Service and Gods Presence is Immediately felt.  The Music was Awesome.  The Message it seems as though it's pointed directly at me and my family.  I'd be Lying if I said that I didn't Cry most of the Time. We were  Blessed by the Service.  Loaded up and went to a late Lunch as a Family and Patty went with us.  I want to Thank God for putting just the right people at just the right time in our life.  I feel so much Hope and have so much Faith after today.  My Cup Runneth Over!!!

J.T. saw River, Shane, Parker and Andy off this morning.  We are so thankful no one was  hurt in the accident they had.  Peyton headed back to Furman.    His Crusaders family and teammates Cody, Hunter, Ty , Eric Estep  , Shorty Adams and his Wife Carol all stopped in again to see him.   God Bless You All!!!

Many Visitors today

Update 7-23 Light day of therapy .  I posted video of earlier today.  Many Visitors today.  Allison and Madison Brewer with parents Christy Williams Brewer and Dwain Brewer.    Brought awesome The Office themed Gifts.  Collin Trent, Morgan Trent, Kinsey Trent, Kinley Trent, and Scott and Jacinda Abel Trent.  Shane, River, and Parker Bailey with Andy Morgan drove down with Jacob and Some pre made Pizza Plus Pizza for us to bake for J.T.. Thanks Yvonne Palmer.    Allison Evans Stopped by again for a visit.  Higgy, Jaylan, Cody , Doc , Addison,  Eric , Shorty and Richard  all from his Crusaders Team came by.  Those guys have been so Supportive.  Tim Susan, Collin and Leah Ryan all came by for a visit and brought gifts too!!!  A very fun and busy day.   All Count I think he had around 30 Visitirs Today.  He ended by asking his ole Pal River to stay over for a sleep over.   Looking forward to going to Church as a family tomorrow at Passion City Church.  I am sure we will be challenged to get there but I know the Lord will Bless us !!!

Family Dinner at Houston's

Finished the week off with a lighter day today.  J.T.  Said he wanted to dress up in something other than athletic gear.  He wanted to look Fresh and Clean!!!   Christie and I got a little afternoon rest. Peyton Rolled into Town All Sassy!!!  We headed out for his first Dinner in a Restaurant.  We pushed down Peachtree Street to Houston's .  Our Favorite Local place.  It reminds us of The Chop House back home.  After a small Family squabble which is very normal for us. Over who and how things needed to be done the safest.  We made it and had an Awesome time.  Great food ,  Great conversation.  Just something Normal like we always do.  The only thing missing was Jacob.  We missed him so much, but he arrives tomorrow.  He stayed home to attend Zander Harris's Nerf War Birthday Party. We pushed back to Shepherd and realized one thing.  From now on we are loading up in the car.  Traveling long distances on the side walks of Atlanta is not for us!!!   We had some surprise gifts today from a little fellow named Hadley Johnson, His brother Tripp and his Parents Dustin and Amanda.  They brought Basketballs down to donate to Shepherd and brought Home Grown Maters and T-shirts for us and J.T. .  They also delivered Grainger Gear from the Grainger High Football, Baseball , and Guidance office.  We ended the evening with J.T. Trying to make thank you videos for some folks.  Well we actually only got one done.  The out takes were so hilarious.  We laughed until our bellies hurt. He finally finished one after 15  attempts.  J.T.  Made his Sissy Bears night by asking her to stay the night.  He told her    " I'm not gonna wake you up and need anything.  I just want you to stay over and watch T.V with me and hang out with me".   That makes a Mom and Dad Proud!!!

Lastly we got some Awesome News about the Golf Tournament!!!  The Response has been Well just like Everything that has happened in response to our struggle Overwhelming. .  Really we are just so Humbled  at the outpouring of Love and Support.   Please Check his Site www.thefightfor5.com for the Exciting News!!!!!!   We Give All The Glory to God for Today and Every Day The Lord Gives us.  We are so Thankful for All the Progress J.T. has made this week.  We value just as everyone should just the little things.  You don't realize until something like this what a Blessing just the Simplest Thing is.  Thank You All so much!!!

Awesome news he can move his left thumb!!!

Update. J.T. had his longest day of therapy yet.  Christie and I got more training on Caring for him.  He actually had some awesome news in finding out that he can move his left thumb!!!   Praise God .  It may seem small but it's how things happen.  He had Visits from Randy and Angie Warner who brought him a gift and spent quality time with us.  They also Prayed with us.  He got a Visit from a Friend of Jason Royston.  Mike Hearn and his wife Who had a son that had an injury and was at the Shepherd Center 7 years ago.  They had lots of information and encouragement.  The day ended at 9:00pm after J.T. Returned from an outing to Dick's Sporting Goods .  We actually met him there and got to shop with him.  He got him some new shoes and some gear to look Fresh in as he put it.  He was very tired when we returned.  It was definitely the busiest day he has had. God offers Eternal Hope

Update. J.T. Had an early day of therapy.  He worked on Slide Board Transfers from the bed to the shower Chair.  Had a Skin Care class teaching him how to care for himself.  The education process that goes on here is constant.  Christie and I are learning as is J.T. .   We are researching and having multiple discussions on how to handle all situations in Caring for J.T.  Christie continues to Amaze me by just jumping in and doing so much.  He hung out with me when he had a longer break for lunch.  He had an assistive technology Class learning to use his laptop.  He had a Visit from Reporter Collin Brooks who has always had Good things to say about J.T.  He traveled down just to interview him for The Northeast Tennessee Pigskin Preview.  It really didn't seem like an interview more of a discussion between friends and fellow Sports Enthusiasts.  He was very Genuine and made us all feel comfortable.   The whole Experience was very positive and very therapeutic for J.T..  Everyone needs to check this Publication out!!!  We ended the Evening by laughing and Cutting up Just Christie, J.T. and myself.  The discussion turned to the day of the accident and the next few days in Johnson City .  He started asking us questions about what we were thinking and who was there, and what he had said and done.  We realized that with meds and all he was going thru he has a limited memory of what took place.  The Conversation was very emotional and I assured him that it was easier to name who wasn't there than to name the Multitudes of People who were there .  He ended the Conversation by asking about his Closest Family and friends and how they were handling things. In Particular he was Concerned about Peyton and Jacob.  He ended by saying he wanted to get better so he could be a good brother to them. He mentioned wanting to play with Jacob and Hang with Peyton like Good Brothers do.  This was heart Warming and Heart Breaking  at the same time.  He said it was Good to Cry and talk these things out!!!   Please Continue to Pray.  There are so many ups and downs.  I have said it before We run the Gamut of Emotions many times Daily.  We long for Home, We long for Normal.  Sometimes it Seems like that It's so far away.  God offers Eternal Hope.  Thank You All for your Continued Support!!!#fightfor5 wwwthefightfor5.com

JT was choosen to do some promotional videos for The Shepherd Center

Update. These past few days have been packed full of Therapy and Class. I have some Video of him on the Lower Extremity Electrical Stimulation Bike.  Monday while in Therapy He had a Visit from Marina McDavid, Her Mother Angie, Sister Macy and Friend Theresa Lipe. They visited and Prayed with Christie and I and got to walk into the therapy room and say a quick hello.  He has been trying to get adjusted to spending time in his Manual Chair and is doing well.  Our Goal this week is to complete our Day pass which would allow him to leave in a vehicle with us and go to Church at a Local Church here in Atlanta.  We have several difficult Tests and Training to Complete this .  One of the things is Car transfers which we practiced yesterday with him and did quite well.  He was chosen to do some promotional videos for The Shepherd Center.  Patty his OT said he was the New Face of Shepherd!!!    He finally got the Feeding tube Removed clearing All Medical Hurdles!!!  He got a Visit from the 15U Crusaders Team again.  They brought him a Signed team ball,  hung out and talked baseball, and Prayed with us.  Kudos to Adam Cross , Tim Copenhaver, Zak Copenhaver, Gavin Cross, Lane Atkins, Noah Webb and the rest of that Bunch.  Two times in the past few days we have been told by Doctors and Staff of how mature and Polite J.T. Is.  This made us very Proud that he can Conduct himself this way during such Tough times.   Please Continue to Pray for Progress.  Mental Strength, Spiritual Strength,  Healing, and Hods Mercy and Grace.  Also remember Christie, Peyton, Jacob and myself.  We appreciate Your Prayers and Support!!!  #ightfor5. www.thefightfor5.com

Golf Tournament highlighted by local TV Stations

Golf tournament update from Kristy Gladson.  Great news!  Teresa Seals Moore will be on WVLT tomorrow at 4:23 to talk about JT's tournament!!  Hunter Gladson and Teresa will be on Channel 5 WCYB news at noon on Thursday!!  The response has been phenomenal and we want the momentum to continue!!!  We only have a few spots left for golf teams so sign up now!! Continue to Pray for Mental Toughness

Update 7-17-16

We got him Hot Cakes and Sausage from McDs this morning.  Got up and had Visits from Ted, Renee, and Tatum Trent.  Brianna Alvis and Callie Price again.  Tony and Linsey Knox came by on the way home from Florida.  They Brought him an Awesome Air Brushed Sand Dollar.  He got a Surprise visit from Coach Baugh and Chloe who went to Church with us.  The Service today was One of the Best Church Services I had Attended in a Long time.  The Lord Always knows just what you need and when.  I knew when the Music included "Who Am I" By The Casting Crowns that things were gonna be Good.  At the end of the Service a Parent of a Kid who had been a patient two years ago got up to speak.  He Blessed us all.  His wife had already asked Christie if she could come by and see us.  Which they did later and Blessed us again .  Christie's Sister Ashley and her family came back by and said goodbye before heading back.  Yes I got Pictures this time only thing is Mr. Nolan was asleep.  We also got another unexpected visit when Austin Adams and his Dad Scott stopped in and brought him a Tampa Bay Rays Shirt.  J.T ended the day Face Timing his Sister Peyton.   We are dealing with a UTI and he will prob have to deal with the negative side effects of the antibiotics and the General discomfort it causes.  Please Pray that this ends quickly.  Pray for Strength as Rehab gets ramped up harder this week.  Continue to Pray for Mental Toughness.  Thank The Good Lord for a Wonderful day of Worship and Fellowship with Family and Friends.  May God Bless You All this Week.  #fightfor5 www.thefightfor5.com

Light Therapy,  Visits All Around.  He went to the Apartment and Lounged with his Aunt Ashley, Ron, Reagan, Liam, Nolan , and Conner for the Afternoon. In all  the Commotion I did not take one Picture??? Went back over to spend the Evening with his Good Friends Tatum Trent, Brianna Alvis, Callie Price , Ted and Renee Jaynes Trent.  Micah Voiles, Tabitha Voiles and  Tori Voiles and her Little brother showed up for a late night Visit.  Great Day!!!

The Preparations for the Golf Tournament for J.T. Have been Amazing and we are so Humbled by All the Love and Support.

Update. First let me say that the past couple of days I have been busy trying to Pamper my Wonderful Wife and Mother of my Children during the down time.   She is just worn out.  Tonight while J.T. Had a visit from his Life Long Friend and Teammate Ryan Bledsoe.  We got away for a Late night Dinner.  The Boys forgot to get a picture but they had a Great time!!!

    Now to the past few days.  J.T. continues to get Stronger and learn how to do more things.  He has worked on board transfers and he is Resting much more.  Mentally things are very Challenging at Times but he always comes through.  He is getting more feeling and some slight movement in his hands and we have had some Victories that while small continue to give us even more hope of things to come.  He was handed the Role  of Mayor of his Hall / Team .  Which means he is the Head Ambassador and Group Leader.  He was Given this By his Close Friend and Teammate Jami Bassett who has Graduated to Day Program.  We want to wish her and his other Teammate Nathan Continued Prayers and Progress in the future.  They will still be around daily.  He went on an Outing today to The Shake Shack where they had Burgers.  He was worn out and got very Hot out in the Atlanta Heat.  His Endurance is  Growing.  While he was out he missed a Visit from Bill and Shirley Helton our Neighbors and Friends.  Thursday Jacob went home with Jason and Cole Putnal who came down to Visit.  Jacob is going to hang with some friends and family and go to Church Camp then he will return.  We miss him very much. J.T. is so interested in his Football Teams Progress in Summer Practice.  He gets many updates from his Teammates and Stays in Close Touch with Coach Baugh.   We continue to ask for Prayers for Strength, Mental Toughness,  Spiritual Guidance  and Healing.  We want to Continually Thank God for the Blessings he has provided During this most Difficult time.  This Valley has been Dark, Deep, and Long.  We place Our Faith in Gods  Hands and know that He will be with us Every Step of the Way.  There is No Way we would have Made it this Far with out His Help.  The Preparations for the Golf Tournament for J.T. Another Blessed Day!!!

Update. J.T. Had a Good day of Therapy Today.  He got on The FES Hand Bike and did well.  He was Visited by his Good Friends Reid Osborne and Brock and Jack Umberger.  He Finally got to meet Alan Brown from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.  Alan and Bernadette Finnegan-Mauro have been so helpful almost from day one.  He got to have some  Candid and Fun Conversations with Alan.  He got to talk on the phone today with Adam Schefter from ESPN which was Awesome.  He Got to talk to The Seattle Mariners Play by Play Guy  Dave Sims who sent him a signed Jersey with a note from Pitcher Steve Cishek.  He had an Great phone conversation with Eric LaGrande who was so encouraging to him.   He kept very close tabs on how his teammates were doing in 7 on 7 work this afternoon.  He Believes in his team and wants them to Succeed so Badly.  Go Chiefs!!! Tomorrow is another big day in rehab. His Schedule this week is really packed full!!! We are very encouraged at his progress and the prospects for improving. Family Time

7-11-2016 Update. Yesterday was more Family time as he got up got ready and as we were about to head out to the Apartment his Nana and Papaw showed up to see him.  We literally Rolled across the Street and had PB&J  and Bologna & Cheese Sandwiches for Lunch.  That's the Stuff we all grew up on!!!  We Got Peyton all Loaded up and Loved on her as she headed back to Furman University.  We watched Two more Movies Kung Fu Panda 3 and Stars Wars The Force Awakens!!! Jacob had a heavy hand in those picks.  I have to say Jacob has been Awesome.  He has entertained us all with Star Wars Trivia, Continuos updates on the NFL , NBA , And  the MLB .  He has even made some appearances as " Big Tasty" for those that watch The Goldbergs specifically showcasing his Basketball skills with Enormous Confidence.  He's a Great Brother. J.T. Is his Hero and he has been forced to face so many grown up things that an 11 yr old just should not have to.  He has been very mature and understanding.  I Pray that  we can give him the Attention and Support he needs.   We went back over and he had a good nights rest.  I will say that he has seemed understandably tired.  He has to adjust to not having the neck brace and being more active. It's just a Grind!!!  He got up and got ready for an outing to an Animal Shelter where he was told there would be Dogs and Cats.   Well it was all Cats!!! He tends to like Dogs better.  He was only Scratched by one Cat!!!   Oh yeah on the way to board the bus he had a little Crash in his Chair.  Everything seems fine though.  He came back ate some Lunch and after a bout with some dizziness and feeling tired he went and had a Good afternoon of Therapy.  He hung out on the Hall with his Inspiring Friends who are making Great Strides Themselves and then we all went down for Dinner as a Group.   I was telling J.T. Tonight about the Golf Tournament that they are having for him.  We are Amazed at the Momentum it has gotten. Huge Kudos go out to Hunter Gladson, Kristy McPeek Gladson, Teresa Seals Moore and Austin Price for all the work they are putting in.  I am sure that there are others I have failed to mention.  God is Great!!!  There is so much Love Coming Our Way.  I can not say enough how Humbled we are at the Support we are getting.  I opened a package from My Friend, Fraternity Brother and Teammate Cabot Davis the other day. Dinner and a Movie out!!

7-9-16 Update. Yesterday J.T. and I got Training that will allow him to go to the Gym and workout Extra with me helping him.  Christie and I and I use the I part loosely finished up our Training in order to get a Push Pass.  Which allows us to go anywhere J.T. can Roll or be pushed by us.  Just not in a Car.  Our Apartment is just across the Street so this is Huge.  He had a good day of therapy which did include some Strength Training.   Peyton stayed with J.T. Over night as she will head back to Furman University for the last Session of Summer and will lead right into the Fall Semester.  I can not say how Proud I am of her.  She has Sacrificed so much.  She has been here with us splitting time staying with him at night and caring for him like the Sissy Bear she is.  We are really going to miss her.  We could not have made it to this point without her. 

He woke up this morning and got dressed for some light Therapy.  He had a visit from Tony Knox as well as Mike and Andrew Miller.  His schedule didn't allow much time but he really appreciated them stopping by.  He ate lunch and his Good Friends Abby Coward and Bethany Osborne had made the Drive down last night and came by to spend some Quality time with him.  After gathering our Gear we made the trip over to our apartment.  This was a Great Day and so therapeutic for all of us.  My Wonderful Wife Christie has went out of her comfort zone and jumped thru so many hoops to make this day happen.  She has given a Super Human effort in getting Trained ,  Going to the Grocery Store, Preparing a Wonderful Meal of BBQ Chicken, Mac N Cheese, Peas, Corn and Fresh Peaches.  She also did the Laundry, and unclogged the bathroom sink!!!!   We are so Blessed to have her.  Her Strength is Amazing!!!We watched two Movies ( Zootopia and Revenant) then rolled back over .  J.T. Visited with Friends on the hall and had a visit from his friend and Teammate Austin Adams and his dad Scott.  You could say it was a Good Day!!! Our Cup Runneth Over!!! God Is so Good!!!Continue to Pray and Everyone have a Blessed Day!!!

Through The Eyes of a Lion

7/7/2016 -Update The Sun came up this morning.  J. T. Woke up and began a new day with a much better attitude.  I knew as soon as I saw his face today would be better.  Let's be honest though yesterday would have been easy to beat.  He went to rehab and did well with some practical things.  He came back and fed himself lunch.  Yeah is appetite is back.  They told him that if everything continues he will get the feeding tube out Monday.  He headed out again to PT and progressed quite well.  Christie and I along with J.T.  Went out to the road literally.  We crossed Peachtree Street twice which is no easy feat.  J.T. Was driving his Power Chair. It was all part of training .  Our Goal is to get our walking pass.  Which will allow J.T. To go off campus anywhere we can roll in his chair.  Our Apartment across the Street which would be a huge lift for us all just to spend time as a family outside the walls of a hospital.  We have been in one for over 6 weeks.  We have more training tomorrow that will require great efforts and over coming physical and emotional hurdles.  Pray that we are able to get this Victory.   J.T.  Had a nice visit from our neighbors and friends Robbie and Emily  Price.   At the end of the day he had some of his favorite people visit.  Shona, Landon and Justin House drove down with many sweets.  He this family so much like we all do.  They are really Family to us!!!  Lee Umberger Zak Parker and Justin's Girlfriend Katherine Brown also Made the trip with them.  We had many laughs and no one was safe from good natured ribbing.  I would like to thank everyone for praying for us.  I would like to Thank God for answering Prayers.  We serve a Living God!!!  I listened to a sermon by Derek George.  The Author of " Through The Eyes of a Lion" who preached at Buckhead Baptist Sunday. I listened to it last night based on a recommendation from J.T.'s Doctor. I won't tell the whole sermon but in it he talked how God chose his very best soldiers to fight his toughest battles.  He talked about several things Lions do one of which is travel in Prides to protect each other from attack.  These things rang true.  J.T. Is one of God's toughest Soldiers and with God's help he will prevail and We do feel lucky to be a part of the same Pride as all of you!!!  Thank You  Thank You Thank You!!! #fightfor5   Please visit J.T's Site www.thefightfor5.com. We'll never underestimate Gods Power or the Power of seeing the smiling faces of Good Friends.

Update I can Honestly say Today was one of the hardest days for not only J.T.  But for Christie and Myself in Weeks.  He had a hard night to start things off.  Seems to be dealing with lots of Anxiety and emotions.  They has scheduled an Endoscopy for around lunch so he was NPO which is no food or drink.  We got up and gave him his shower.  Christie and I got checked off so we can give him a shower anytime he wants.  By the time all that is done he's getting prepped for the procedure.  We can already tell he's just hungry, frustrated, and generally upset. We finally get all the paperwork and he has the procedure .  The results of which are actually Great.  He has no problems .  He wakes up and when we walk in he looks at me a says "it did not go well " .  This kid was pulling our leg.  That was really funny .  After this point things take a wrong turn. He has trouble breathing ,  I have to Cough assist, and then his Oxygen level drops.  He gets even more anxious  and is not feeling well at all.  They get to the room and leave the Oxygen on which scares me.  He is very Nauseas and very tired.  He says he has a lot of secretions which freaks him and us out. We are wondering is this thing going backwards?   He takes an small nap.  He is so sick he can not eat.  Not to mention he has a group of friends who had drive 5hours to see him who have unexpectedly waited for 2-3 hours just for a chance to see him.  he finally wakes up and I am unsure if he will even be able to stay awake.  I'm hoping at best hey can see him 30 minutes.  We'll never underestimate Gods Power or the Power of seeing the smiling faces of Good Friends.  As soon as Ethan Crowder, Will Jenkins, Isaac Nickels, , Luke Jarnigan , Josh Drinnon, Stephanie Smith, and Cameron Smith walked in it was like you turned a light switch on.  He perked up and had a great time visiting with them.  They watched the second half of Bench Warmers.  He was able to eat some saltine crackers, a little Tomato Bisque and some Cheese Cake.   The Nausea did return and he had some problems with secretions but he did improve and they did take away the Oxygen.   He got a surprise visit from Jaden Henard and his Parents Phillip and Karen.  You could just see how much Jaden cared for and worried about J.T.  It was so Heart Warming .  He is praying every day.  They also brought some Chocolate covered Strawberries.  He had a couple of more Visitors when Lendon Redwine and his Mother.  They brought him done workout gear and some fresh Peaches.   Let's all pray that he rests better.  Please pray that he can deal with the things he is facing from the mental side.  God only knows what thoughts and questions he has.  We are hoping for things to get back on a more positive track tomorrow's.  We are so thankful for God sending a whole wave of folks when I would have bet he was not up for it that stepped in and brightened his day and ours too.  Thank You Jesus for Providing just what we need at the exact moment.  Pray for  not only His Strength but for Ours.  Pray for U detests ding and most of All God's Grace and Healing.  #fightfor5 wwwthefightfor5.com

Now I call that Awesome News.  He will start using a manual Chair Some tomorrow.   No matter how well he progresses he will need to use both types of chairs for awhile.  He no longer has Telemetry to follow him around.  He is free to roam on the hospital property.    He no longer needs to be enexophlated.   His Doctor came in today and she said that he was just figuring out what he could do.  She said that this was the bottom and he was gonna get better and better.  The trache site being open makes his voice a little weaker.    The actual whole will close off and heal up quick.  He will have an Endoscopy tomorrow sometime just to see that he has no problems in his throat.  His appetite continues to grow.  He has to keep eating well to get Strength.  He has some muscle soreness from the workout.  He said  it was like when you start back lifting.  His neck will be sore without the Collar being there to rest on.  We are so proud of his progress.  We are so thankful for all the Prayers and most important we give all the Glory to God!!!  #fightfor5  www.thefightfor5.com

Happy Sunday!!

Update Got a Shower  Watched some Netflix.  Had many Visitors including Coach Nick Winstead and Lucas Miskus who stopped back by before heading home.   His Cousin Taylor Hubler. Also made a surprise visit.   Jeff and Melita Ringley made the trip and brought all kinds of Awesome Independence  Day Celebration gifts and some CPT shirts.  Coach Hensley and his wife came by to encourage him on the way home from the beach.  They even went outside with us for awhile.  He ole Buddies Ethan Crowder and Augustus Fraley came by to have a few laughs.  Patrick and Tonya loved on him.   Kirsten Henson came by with gifts . Chris , Kim and Kody Henson came along too.  I sent two different groups to my favorite The Varsity to fuel up before they headed back.  He was a little tired for most of the day but he really appreciated all the folks who came by to wish him well.  Tomorrow is an early start as we have to be over at The Shepherd Center at 5 AM.  J.T.  Is going to watch the Peachtree Road Race and then hang with some of the participants at a Brunch afterwards.  Good Night to All and please continue to Pray.  Have a Happy and Safe July 4th.  #fightfor5. www.thefightfor5.com

Saturday usually light day

Update. Saturday's are Generally a light day with only one hour of therapy.  He got to his session and did some arm band resistance training which was a graduation to higher levels of training.  He told me he wanted to get sone Dumbbells and do incline press.  We asked his therapists and he put in probably his best workout ever.  I am sure most of you saw the slide show and pics I posted.   He will be sore the next couple of days but that's why we are here.  Coach Nick Winstead and his teammate Lucas Miskus drove down and spent the afternoon with him.   He had a good time catching up.  His Nana and Papaw also drove down and spent the whole day with him.  He really Loves them so much.  Christie and I got him set up so that he could watch The Office on Netflix in his spare time.  He ate really well and soaked up the Gatorade.  His Good Friend Maura Jane Weems her mother and father and Loren Loudy dropped in on the way back from Vacation.  Maura brought him a Shirt, Bracelet and a Post card.  He enjoyed visiting with them.  Rested good last night and has already started binge watching Netflix with his mother and I this morning.   Everyone please Travel Safe.  Enjoy the time with your family and have a Blessed Holiday Weekend.  Happy Sunday.  The Day The Lord Hath Made!!!   #fightfor5. www.thefightfor5.com

Happy Birthday Christie!!

Update had a good nights rest with Sissy Bear Peyton  watching over him.  Got up and ready.  Headed out to the Movies with friends from the floor.  Sat in a regular seat.  The ride was tougher and the neck and shoulders got tired.  He still had s good time and the Movie Central Intelligence was funny.  He had made a statement that He didn't care if he was picking up garbage on the side of the road .  He was getting out of this place". They had packed a lunch , but there was no time.  His ole Dad came and heated him up some Chicken Pasta.  After that he visited with some friends in the Hall.  He had a visit from Megan Cain and her Daughter Emily.  Who brought some awesome Tennessee gifts.  He hung out with Jacob and Peyton for the evening and ate Lasagna from Maggianos  While I took Christie out for her Birthday Dinner.  Something we normally do as a family,  but we decided to wait till J.T.  could go to do that.  We hope everyone has s very fun and safe Holiday Weekend.  God Bless!!!  #fightfor5 www.thefightfor5.com

J.T. Keeps improving !!!

Update.    J.T. Keeps improving !!!  Coach Baugh spent the night and took excellent care of J.T.  They rested well and got up ate some breakfast and began a big day of therapy.  J.T.  Worked on the skills of eating and drinking by himself turning on the water and brushing his own teeth.   He also played some Yahtzee.  His appetite continues to grow.  They have put him on a calorie count to see how much he is taking in in hopes of taking the feeding tube out.  He ate a big dinner.  He even ate some Sour Patch kids .  This was practice for the group outing scheduled for tomorrow in which they are going to the movies.  He is determined to have Candy at the movies.  They have also scheduled a precautionary endoscopy to check and make sure everything looks good .  The fact that he is eating more and swallowing better leads us to believe things are fine.  He got on the table and worked on sitting up and rolling over.  He and Coach went out side in an unauthorized move.  Those two are Rebels!!!      We feel so Blessed to have Coach Baugh in our lives.  He truly Loves J.T.  J.T.'s temperature continues to fluctuate .  His voice is getting better and better.  There has been a few singing moments.  His Sister made it back after a short getaway with friends to see Bieber.  We all missed her rowdiness.   With Cody here we were able to rest ,  Get some apartment cleaning done, dishes done, and some Laundry.  We got a surprise visit from on of our old neighbors and friends Cindy Winstead Gilliam and her Mother Marylin Winstead.  They brought J.T.  A Football signed by the SF 49ERS  that Daniel Kilgore had sent along with some of Daniel's Game used Gloves.  #fightfor5. www.thefightfor5.com
